Boy, did we have quite an adventure last month! Just imagine — one minute you're dealing with a clogged loo, the next, your house is flashing its impersonation of Niagara Falls! That's right, folks, we had a flood at our place, thanks to an overflowing bathtub. But guess what saved the day? Ring's water sensor, that's what! It might not have stopped the flood but it certainly played a crucial role in reducing the damage.

Now, in this episode, we take a trip down memory lane as we delve into the world of Microsoft Windows 95.

We also have some exciting updates on our Five-Acre Tech project and a giveaway of a large round speaker you won't want to miss!

Adam:

Thank you for joining us. I'm Adam Oghan.

Ronnie:

I'm Ronny Tofty and this is 5acre Tech Awesome. What episode is this?

Adam:

This is yeah, this is episode 13 from season one. Nice, you think I would have got that down the first time. You said what you were going to say. I know, I know I said it. I said I was going to say it, but I didn't say it.

Ronnie:

What is a teleprompter? Do you need a teleprompter?

Adam:

Yeah, and if I would do this, you can actually see all of us. There you go.

Ronnie:

All of us Reminds me of a song.

Adam:

Really.

Ronnie:

Kind of. I think there's a song called that Something, maybe, maybe, maybe. There's another song. You know what it's called, what? Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back. Where have we been?

Adam:

That's right.

Ronnie:

You might be wondering where have we been? Did we get abducted by aliens? No, did we get swept away in a hurricane? Could have, we did not get swept away in a hurricane. Did we go on vacation? No, did we have a rainstorm inside the studio and ruin all the equipment?

Adam:

Somewhat. Kind of Kind of what happened, nothing. I didn't do anything Intentionally. Intentionally, yes, I did not do anything intentionally, but I could talk about it. Or you can just tell the story, ronnie, in your fashion. It may be better than mine.

Ronnie:

I don't know. Just go ahead, tell them what happened, tell them all the, or at least start to tell them all the details.

Adam:

Well, we had a flood, we had in the five acre tech offices, my house and basically it all started with a clogged toilet.

Ronnie:

Fortunately the toilet didn't overflow and flood the house, no, no. That wasn't what flooded the house. No, thank you.

Adam:

Yep, that was not what flooded the house. But after we got everything done and we were testing the plumbing I was testing the plumbing, ronnie had already left I decided to fill up the bathtub with fresh water so we could let it all out at the same time, to make sure that we really got it and there really wasn't going to back up again, because it was like 75 feet down the plumbing. And so all of a sudden get a knock at the door. My son gets home from vacation. He was in California, went to Disney, went to Star Wars land, brought me some gifts. I was so excited and that's why we bring this up to five acre tech.

Adam:

You got distracted. I got distracted for the next 30 minutes and the bathtub had nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the problem. That made me find out.

Ronnie:

What do you mean? So back up a second. So you started filling the tub up.

Adam:

Yep Started filling and you forgot.

Ronnie:

And forgot, distracted by the commotion in the house.

Adam:

And we forgot. We actually a couple more things.

Ronnie:

And it doesn't have a drain, an overflow drain in it, like some tubs do no. No, this one does not.

Adam:

No.

Ronnie:

So it started to flood.

Adam:

It started to flood, but before that, before that let's do the intro music, because I forgot that too.

Ronnie:

It's been a long time. We're a little bit rusty.

Adam:

Just a little. I mean, it is water, you know. Water rests us, you know, older guys. So basically, why we brought this up to 5acre tech? Because it's about technology, and technology happened to save the day today, semi-saved the day Some, I said today.

Adam:

Basically, I had a water sensor from Ring sitting on the floor, unfortunately in a higher spot than I would have liked on the floor. So by the time it made it to the water sensor and the Ring alarm went off, I started screaming through the house to tell everybody to shut the water off in the bathtub. Probably 20, 25 minutes had already passed, so the damage was done. And then it's really really funny I have a hot tub. Hot tub broke. First, this flood happened, or the backup of the plumbing happened. Second, the flood happened. Third, inside here, straight above us, right about there, we had to basically cut a hole in the ceiling, find a leak in the roof, patch the roof, put the ceiling back, repaint everything. And now we're back here, even though I've been working on the room, because I've been out living in my RV, because we had nowhere to stay, because we kept going from room to room to room and it was done. There was nothing we could do.

Ronnie:

Yeah, it was quite funny. I mean, you called me about the toilet so I came over and helped with that, and then the bathtub flooded and you told me about that and then the next day you send me a picture of water coming through the ceiling right there.

Alexa:

Yeah.

Ronnie:

It was almost unbelievable unbelievable to have that many things go wrong within 48 hours.

Adam:

Yeah, it was absolutely crazy. You wouldn't have believed it. But if you have any ring water sensors, find out. Maybe put a level on the floor, find out where you can place them. That would be in the best place possible. The house that I own did not have an overflow in the bathtub, which we're still dumbfounded by it. I guess some houses, some housemakers, just don't put them in, didn't realize it. So that's basically what happened. But put that ring sensor in the right place because it will save you. It will definitely make it where. There's not an issue with that to that extent, because it's just going to come out the drain and you don't want to do that.

Ronnie:

Yeah, I would recommend close to your tub area and or underneath your your cabinet in your sink. We had similar technology. It wasn't Ring, it was just connected to our HVAC software at the hospital that I worked up in Washington and we would put them in and around some of our HVAC equipment. So when the drain over the condensate pan drains, sometimes we get plugged in the potentially leak. This would help us give us a warning Right, but more of a flow sensor. So when the water level got too high because there was always water in the pan when the water level got too high that would tell us before it would flood. But now they make Ring with a nice, at home, easy to use device that you set there, connects to the Wi-Fi and alerts you when it senses water. Yep, Not very much water too.

Adam:

No, it doesn't take much water, just you just don't want it sitting on a high spot.

Adam:

So find the low spot, put the sensor there. If you don't own them already, buy them Right after that. That's the second time that that had gone off for us. The first time was under my kitchen sink. The P-trap was a little loose, didn't get tightened all the way and started dripping and it went off immediately. Fix the problem. It was an easy fix. And next thing, I know I'm buying more sensors and I'm like, okay, I totally believe in this. It would have also been nice, with the Ring system that you can go ahead and put in a auto cutoff valve to your main water. I don't know if we ever talked about that, but you can.

Ronnie:

They do make those.

Adam:

Yeah, and so Ring has it in their system where the auto shut it off when something happens like this or you can remotely shut it off, you feel like it, or if you just have this feeling, hey, you know, I really need to shut it off because I'm out of town and I really don't want anything to happen. Hit a button on your phone and, you know, tell Alexa. Ah, we said the A word, Sorry.

Ronnie:

Fortunately, we changed this one.

Adam:

Yeah, didn't go off, but yours probably went off. Tell your, tell your voice assistant, you know, shut it off. That would help out a lot. So you know the products are good when they, when you have them set up properly. The one thing I just did not think of is is there a high spot in my floor which was basically all the water was running out the house? Funny thing is, a few weeks later my brother-in-law calls and says hey, can you come over? I got a problem. So I go over to his house. It's flooding from the air conditioner and it's underneath brand new locking floor vinyl vinyl floor and it's.

Adam:

It's basically coming up the cracks and as he's walking in, so I had a thermal meter that I can look through a screen and see, you know, the cool spot of the water and how much damage it was. And it was all of his master bedroom, half the living room, half the hallway, his closet. It turned out to be the overflow or the, the drain for the air conditioner condensation.

Ronnie:

Fortunately for him, he has a slab, yeah, so he's not going to have an. Unfortunately for you.

Adam:

Wood floor.

Ronnie:

We have wood floor but vinyl plank.

Adam:

But yeah, the discovery of pulling all that off found another problem. So after we rebuilt after Hurricane Harvey, we put in a tile shower, had everything done right, had a guy that knows what he's doing and apparently maybe didn't, and it's been leaking ever since. So now we have another problem and we're going to have to pull out two pieces of plywood under the flooring, pull out the shower, rebuild it.

Ronnie:

The tile shower, so it's got a full pan.

Adam:

We'll be putting a tile shower back in Right, but it's a knock.

Ronnie:

It's not. It's going to be some work. Yeah, it's going to be a lot of work, but all the other work we've gotten done, because we ripped up all the vinyl plank for yours to dry the floor. Good, because it was a wood floor. Hold your tub out and dry that L out. Now we put it all back together, except for the shower area which we still need to.

Adam:

And I, oh, I forgot one more thing.

Ronnie:

What's that? The storm door, yeah.

Adam:

The storm door. Yeah, the door at my front door Starts Like a screen door, but it's a storm door here and we don't pay good money for it.

Ronnie:

It's glass, doesn't have any screen.

Adam:

It's got a locking system. It's hurricane proof, it won't shatter. You go up on the handle and lock it and walk away. You don't have to board it up. Very nice, looks nice, and the auto closing system on it malfunction. That was the last thing that happened, so we had to spend $130 on that.

Ronnie:

Put that in. It was, it was slamming right, yeah, yeah.

Adam:

And then we adjusted it and it wasn't shutting and and it's pretty heavy and the kids try to open the door, the grandkids, and they're going to chop their fingers off glass too?

Ronnie:

Is he the last thing you know? Excuse me.

Adam:

Yeah, you don't slamming, yeah, you don't want, you don't want that to happen. So those are the things that happened, but we have exciting news, exciting news, exciting news.

Ronnie:

We're going to do something on the next podcast. It's a secret.

Adam:

Kind of?

Ronnie:

Are we going to tell them?

Adam:

We're going to, we're actually going to show them. We're going to show them, yeah. So I'm going to, I'm going to remove.

Ronnie:

What are we going to see? What's going on? What's happening?

Adam:

here. Yeah, I'm going to remove the logo on the screen, okay. So if you guys are not, if you guys are listening to this in your favorite podcast app, you may want to head over when you get a chance. So, if you're on YouTube already, go to see our podcast on YouTube, and what I'm about to reveal is behind the logo and we are going to give it away.

Ronnie:

What. What is that?

Adam:

That is straight up there.

Ronnie:

An Amazon.

Adam:

Echo.

Ronnie:

You're going to give it away.

Adam:

We're giving it away. That's the bigger one, that's the round one that came out last year.

Ronnie:

That's the one you're giving away.

Adam:

That's the one, the very one we are giving away. Now it can give you details or how that's going to happen, but the next episode, episode 14 of five acre tech, head over to YouTube. All the rules will be there, we'll tell you about it and we are going to give that away.

Ronnie:

Cool, yeah, it's very nice oh free.

Adam:

Yep, it's. It's the large one with a good base speaker built into it. It's not the largest one they make, but it sounds really good Cool.

Ronnie:

That's exciting. Someone's going to win it. Can I? Can I win it?

Adam:

Uh, family members of and and people in the podcast or any part of of this can probably win too If they do what we tell them. What I could win, it you could, but that would we really shouldn't, oh that would be kind of cheating.

Ronnie:

So we'll give you.

Adam:

you have one, so it's okay, you know we can't really talk about it at this moment. All we can do is tell you tune in next week and the instructions for this giveaway will be there. Excellent.

Ronnie:

Yeah.

Adam:

Exciting Giving away technology. Giving away technology and talking about five acre tech and technology. There's what.

Ronnie:

I got a question Go, can we change subjects? I don't know what you were going to talk about, but oh, go ahead, you do have some good news about five acres.

Adam:

We are so in tune, Ronnie. Where is that what you're? Going to talk about that is exactly what I was going to say. I had no idea. It's exactly what I was going to say. We actually have good news.

Adam:

So, we finally got some approval somewhere. That's all I'll say. To go to the next step, and now we can get it surveyed and not subdivided. It's not a subdivision Repleted, we're going to have the property Repleted. Now we kind of refining and sit and have our property and be able to build on it, since we do live in a city where there's five acres lots of them so we'll be able to actually start moving on that and we're going to be showing a lot more tech as that comes out. And, of course, with the flood that happened, a lot of the things that we planned kind of got on the back burner, that we talked about in the show, and we'll try to get those in as soon as we can. Cool.

Ronnie:

Yeah, that's exciting.

Adam:

We got some new cameras from wise and wisecom. Not sure if it's wisecom, but the wise camera company yeah, I think it is, and they make cameras, light bulbs, all sorts of things. So it's kind of the lighting here. We have white lights above, just behind all the droids up there and where the echo is. We're going to give away that light is blue. We can actually change that to red. We can change it to pretty much any color right now. Actually, we can do it now Is that a strip.

Adam:

That, yeah, that is a light. A light strip. That is, I think, pretty incredible Cool and, as I said, it is now going to be red, red, we can do yellow, blue, of course, green, I like.

Ronnie:

the blue green Reminds me of.

Adam:

There's Aqua.

Ronnie:

My favorite football team.

Adam:

Yeah, there can't. There isn't really a blue green football team I've ever heard of.

Ronnie:

Really.

Adam:

Mainly because I don't watch football.

Ronnie:

So that for you've not heard of anything.

Adam:

Pretty much, except all I know is I'm supposed to like the cowboys, according to my wife.

Ronnie:

Well, not everybody's perfect. So there you go, yeah.

Adam:

Um, as as as in the cowboys, Incorrect. Well, that was a long pause. We can even go orange, but back to blue, Blue, Cool. Um, yeah, it's. Um, it's uh not supposed to talk bad about the cowboys, so I don't want to get in trouble, yeah.

Ronnie:

But if you can't say anything, nice, you don't say anything at all. That's my thing. Yeah, that's kind of like. So I didn't do a, I didn't do a, um, um factoid. I didn't really find a good one, but I did have this day in history before that Okay, I'm just noticed something very strange behind you, to your right.

Adam:

Can you grab that and hand it to me? What is this?

Ronnie:

Windows basic 95. What is that?

Adam:

This is technology in the making, the new release of the Microsoft Windows 95 big book, basic book of Windows 95. That's old.

Ronnie:

Yeah, I would think it's old.

Adam:

This is like the.

Ronnie:

Bible of. Is there a factoid in there?

Adam:

There's probably a factoid in here Copy and paste text into a DOS window. I don't think we call it that anymore. Change your mouse or video driver, log on and off the network. Understanding the print screen.

Ronnie:

So is that Microsoft for dummies?

Adam:

I think kind of so. So yeah, my son actually found this book. Somebody else in the family is going to get this book next. If that person's watching, he probably knows it's coming. I can't say if it's male or female, but he'll know and he will have this book in his house next, which is so exciting. I've read this from end to end and all I can do is say telling me these bananas. So yeah, it's a wonderful book. If you like to live in the past, I'll be glad when it moves on.

Ronnie:

There it is. I've never read it.

Adam:

Nice finding little finds like that. Austin found it somewhere. I'm not sure where he works for me, my son does. He was supposed to be on. He was supposed to be on today.

Ronnie:

We're supposed to talk about short key shortcuts.

Adam:

Yeah, we're gonna. He ditched us. He really didn't. We didn't call him.

Ronnie:

Oh, I like the others version where he ditched us, you like? That version yeah he ditched us instead of us not calling him and telling him that we're doing a podcast.

Adam:

Well, we tried and he was busy and then he called.

Ronnie:

He's got two little kids too, yeah man.

Adam:

He called in the middle of this podcast and I'm. You know what do I do to stop and call him up.

Ronnie:

He could have been on the podcast. Actually, we can do that right now we're gonna call.

Adam:

We're gonna do something we've never done before.

Ronnie:

Make a live phone call.

Adam:

This one will be literally. You'll have to hear it on this.

Alexa:

Can you connect?

Adam:

I'll call you back in a minute. Yeah, okay, sounds great. That's hilarious, well that's all I get.

Ronnie:

Okay, well, while he's going to call us back, yes, we can do our, we can do my fact. Let's do your fact, toad.

Adam:

It's a this day in history this day in history by Ronnie's off.

Ronnie:

Guess what happened in 2001 in November 10th. November 10th 2001.

Adam:

Don't cheat, november 10th 2001. Long pause for no reason, because I have no idea.

Ronnie:

Okay, ipod. Wow iPod First time.

Adam:

Okay, everybody, everybody out there, raise your hand. If you got an iPod, if you ended up with an iPod at one point of your life.

Ronnie:

Everyone did.

Adam:

Hold on, let me look.

Ronnie:

I don't know, you can't see them.

Adam:

Dingling. Oh, you're right, I can only see us.

Ronnie:

You don't have that technology yet. No, imagine someday. Yeah, we'd have to basically do stuff like that.

Adam:

We can, we can. All we have to do is just do this on Zoom and then maybe invite people to you know, ask some questions or something.

Ronnie:

Talk, but we might get weirdos. I don't want to do that. Yeah, if we make it open, right?

Adam:

Well, nobody's really weird, well, but we'll be saying a lot of O's if we get everything. So, yeah, yeah, it's something you guys like, though you know and we want to do. You know, discussing with, you know, random people that we could, we could eventually do that. Of course, we'll have to use a screener. You know there is policies that all these companies have. We want to keep it, you know, clean.

Ronnie:

But that's down the road. Down the road. You know what else happened in 1895? 1895. 1895, in November of 1895.

Adam:

Yes what. The first bookmark for books was invented.

Ronnie:

I don't know about that. That could be true, but I don't think so. I made that up.

Adam:

I have no idea.

Ronnie:

I'm pretty sure that someone made a bookmark before 18. A guy by the name of William Rotkin, I think that's how you say him R-O-N-T-G-E-N.

Adam:

Not sure.

Ronnie:

With two dots above the O Rotkin I don't know X-Ray. He stumbled across the X-Ray when he was doing some research with the person you know what I'm going to have to call.

Adam:

I'm not sure if you're right or not. Oh really no.

Ronnie:

Yeah, wait a second. I think I might know why you think that.

Adam:

Why.

Ronnie:

Because Tesla.

Adam:

No.

Ronnie:

Why.

Adam:

No, because we're going to get a second opinion.

Ronnie:

Okay, who's the second opinion?

Adam:

Ziggy, who created the X-Ray?

Alexa:

Wilhelm Conrad Rundkin, a physics professor, invented the X-Ray in 1895. He accidentally discovered X-rays while conducting an experiment and later created the first X-Ray machine. His invention revolutionized medical imaging and earned him a Nobel Peace Prize in physics. Did that answer your question?

Adam:

Yes.

Alexa:

Thanks for your feedback.

Adam:

Wow, there was some more info you didn't believe me. No, I just wanted to use the echo. All right, good enough, I wanted to be part of your little thing, but I'm sorry it's okay, it's great.

Ronnie:

It's great, it was interesting. I thought yeah.

Adam:

Very interesting. That is a great actor, he stumbled upon it.

Ronnie:

He wasn't trying to do it.

Adam:

Yeah, can you imagine back in those days? I mean, they're literally coming up with this stuff. It was just amazing.

Ronnie:

All right, is that all we got? I?

Adam:

kind of think it is. I kind of think it is. I was hoping the phone would ring, but looking at the phone really doesn't do anything?

Ronnie:

Does it make it ring? Okay?

Adam:

But yeah, oh, I can talk about one thing. What's that that we can talk about real quick is don't you enjoy all the new stickers you can create of yourself in the iPhone, ios the latest version? Don't you enjoy making?

Ronnie:

those. I don't know what you're talking about.

Adam:

Oh yeah, I'm sorry, I'm the one with the iPhone. He's got an Android phone. So, on that note, who cares? On that note, wow, that one actually hurt a little bit iPhone. Yeah, I'm sorry, I did have to do that. I did have to do that. So thank you for listening. This is episode 13 from season one of five acre tech.

Ronnie:

And we promise we're going to be regular going forward every week, if you like it or not unless it floods again.

Adam:

Let's not say that.
