Adam:

This is Apple Week. Do you have an Apple Watch? Did you know you can operate it without even touching it? And AirDrop, what is it? Is it safe? Apple iOS there's some concerns, but we'll find out more about it. Airplay, personal voice and more All of this on 5acreTech. I'm Adam Oghan.

Ronnie:

And I'm Ronnie Tofty and we're delaying a lot today. Sorry, we're distracted.

Adam:

Yeah, we are distracted. This is a great week for tech. Very good week, and welcome to 5acreTech. So we're going to be talking about Apple stuff. How did it get?

Ronnie:

how did it get its own week?

Adam:

It's super simple. You went to go do a job. I called it Apple Week, just like that. So yeah, and then we're kind of doing this show a little early to release on Monday, so we got some things to do this week, but we're going to cover a lot of stuff there's. You know, right now there's a. There's a product from Apple. It is called, not Airplay, airdrop, airdrop. We'll start with that.

Ronnie:

AirDrop. That's part of the new iOS update.

Adam:

Yes, it is. It is part of the new iOS update, and that's what everyone's, at least the articles I've been seeing.

Ronnie:

people are freaking out. You got to be careful, yeah.

Adam:

So we decided to touch it. So, Mike, I mean touch it.

Ronnie:

Well, touch on it, Put your yeah, put your hands on it and show it.

Adam:

Yeah, yeah, so we're. We're actually going to show you what we discovered. My granddaughter, my grandson, are here today. They're watching some educational TV in the other room and we are. She has an iPhone and I went ahead and tried the Apple AirDrop because I haven't tried it yet, and it's actually pretty cool. I was very amazed. It kind of looks like this right here, which you're going to see on the screen Just AirDrop your contact right over with your picture, everything on it. I mean pretty, pretty cool.

Ronnie:

So for those who are not watching it on YouTube, which? You should it's better, but you hovered the phones over each other and it shared contacts.

Adam:

It did. You just basically put touch them together like you had use your phone for, you know, purchasing something using you know your card and the same thing. Just put your phone over each other or next to each other, tap them, whatever you want to do.

Ronnie:

So what does it got everyone? Why is everyone freaking out? What is the big deal? Who cares?

Adam:

Well, this is kind of what they're freaking out Now. This is. This is a video I took of my phone tapping my granddaughter's phone, and we're going to see what that looks like. So basically, I went up there. You hear that noise and that pop, and then my contact comes up. I'm going to have to black black that out. You guys are going to have my phone number now.

Ronnie:

So people can. People can come up. The concern is, then, is people can come up and potentially have access to your contacts.

Adam:

Yeah, so, but but you got to do one more thing, like anything that Apple has, it's you know. You got to accept it. So, if something happens, somebody walks up to you, they see your phone, they see your phone in the back pocket and they get their phone close and walk towards you. You got AirPods on or not? You pick up your phone and you go, oh, what's this? Well, don't accept it. If you don't know what it is, don't accept it. Yeah, don't accept somebody sharing a picture through, you know, on an airplane doing an airdrop. That way, lots of things, you just don't want to accept it. I mean, be cautious of whatever you do.

Adam:

Right so accept it, but it's a neat feature.

Ronnie:

Yeah, so there's no way for someone to walk up from behind you and get access without you accepting it, so it's not really that much of a concern. Yeah, the articles I read said that they're afraid. Some people are afraid that people who don't realize what's happening might say yes. But, like you just said, you should never say yes unless you know what it is.

Adam:

That's exactly right, but there are really good reasons to use it. I mean, when was the last time you should? You know, if you have an iPhone and you share the contact with somebody and it's probably very similar and correct me if I'm wrong, ronnie it's probably very similar to the iPhone, which is when you go ahead and you want to share contact with somebody, you're going to have to text them. So you go to your contacts and share with somebody.

Adam:

Yeah, the VR file Put their text in there and you upload it and you know that's really it. I mean, it takes some work. You got to make some effort. Now you just tap phones, touch one button and that's it Kind of like this button. I'm about ready to touch here. So let's do that real quick. This episode of 5-Acre Tech has been released on Monday, december 11th 2023, episode number 17.

Ronnie:

Now you know there you go, I forgot we don't have to let your Caleb today.

:

Yeah, where's Caleb? He quit already. He quit. You were too mean, no we had to do this.

Adam:

We didn't pay him enough, we just did it on a different day. That wasn't even a joke. So, yeah, we did on a different day today, so he couldn't make it. We're still trying to work out some bugs with OBS, streamlabs, obs. We're excited for you to see what we're going to do with that and should make the show a little bit more exciting.

Ronnie:

Maybe We'll see and do you hear about what Google's doing.

Adam:

No.

Ronnie:

They're trying to catch up to check GBT.

Adam:

What? Yeah, awesome? No, I have not. There's so much news out there it's hard to keep up.

Ronnie:

Google is getting ready to release their new AI. It's called Gemini, I believe, and they're saying it's supposed to be pretty amazing. It's not going to rival chat GBT, it's going to be better then. So that's what they're saying. Wow, we'll see.

Adam:

It's kind of like Amazon's new product which can only be found. Yeah, yeah, using the A word, but we're going to use the Z word here in a minute, just to see what happens. Ziggy, let's chat. Well, you think I would have got that down right. I even told you what to do before the show. Ziggy, let's chat.

:

Noted. We'll let you know when it's ready.

Adam:

So that's what they're telling us. So pretty soon we're actually going to be able to use a AI to talk to, basically.

Ronnie:

Ziggy. What do you mean? I explain.

Adam:

So there's a chat bot or a chat AI where you can just start talking and they'll just talk back to you like anything else.

Ronnie:

Like my mother-in-law when she always says thank you to the Echo.

Adam:

No, even beyond that.

Ronnie:

And it'll say you're welcome.

Adam:

Kind of like the conversation we're having here, but very, very probably a little bit more limited.

Ronnie:

So people who are hiding in their house and don't want to talk to anyone, it can just talk to someone. Just talk to an AI. Say I'm feeling depressed, and then I'll talk to them, yeah. Or I'm feeling excited, yeah.

Adam:

And I'll talk to them.

:

Yeah.

Ronnie:

Or I'm feeling hungry.

Adam:

Can't help you with that. They can't help you with that. No, they really can't help you with that.

Ronnie:

Why not? They could send food. Oh, you're right See you got the you got the red, they can send food.

Adam:

You've yeah, so why can't they send food? So if you're talking going, man, uh you know, uh, what are these things called Assistance?

Ronnie:

Oh, the echo the um voice assistant.

Adam:

So we can just say voice assistant or echo, I'm, I'm let's, you know, let's chat, yeah, what do you want to chat about?

Ronnie:

So basically, I, I'm really don't um, I feel depressed and then they send you to that, that thing that everyone online is sponsoring right now.

Adam:

Yeah, have you seen that?

Ronnie:

No, yeah, it's like all the influencers are doing it right now because these all the all my YouTube people that I follow they they've got this um mental health thing that you sign up for and then you, you have access to doctors online.

Adam:

That just oh, yeah, yeah. So you don't have to go visit, you can be man. So you don't have to visit with anybody you can visit you know you're feeling that way.

Ronnie:

You get on your echo and they'll disconnect you. Is that is that? Is that it?

Adam:

Well, yeah, it's, it's going to be the new Amazon Echo prime friend. Is that what it's going to be? It's good, that's what it's going to be. Uh, there will be an upcharge to your prime account and it'll be the prime friend and you can choose different friends with different. You know different things and I think, I think it's going to be just like the other one. You know Amazon, uh, amazon now prime delivery.

Adam:

Yesterday you should go to adamoghanotcom and, uh, check it out. Um, I got an exclusive on this. You can click on the banner and uh, it'll take you right to it and then whatever you order, um, or whatever it says on after you click on the banner, is really going to happen. It's like I ordered this stuff the other day on the last show and it showed up. I ordered it during the show and it showed up yesterday. It was just right there. The whole time Didn't even know. I'm still confused. Don't be, just just go with it. It's kind of like AI, just go with it, just go with it. Yeah, just go with it. Ai, it's a joke. Ronnie doesn't know that when I whisper, I can't hear you, you can't hear me, but anyways, there, it actually is quite funny when you go there to the site just to see it.

Adam:

It's not that funny but, um, yeah, it's kind of funny. So we have also one of the new things. So, um, oh, back to the. If I hadn't said it completely all the way, um, when it comes to airdrop, it is going to be so simple. I mean, you can have your, you can set up your um in your contacts. You can go to um contacts my card, set it up any way you want, just like you saw my card on there, and I'll have to take off the phone number. I got to remember to do that, otherwise everybody would be calling me Um, that'd be fun.

Adam:

Yeah, no, yeah, it would be fun. Anyways, uh, the um, the interesting part, uh, of that is you're going to be able to just get your card ready, have all the numbers, addresses, whatever you want, and just tap somebody's phone. Now, that is going to be convenient. Of course, that's with an iPhone. Maybe they'll link that in with, you know, samsung phones or Google phones later. That would be awesome, because that that's a nice feature. I really think that's going to be nice. I don't think it's going to be anything to worry about whatsoever.

Ronnie:

You know something else I read about. One guy did, and I forget the name of it, but some guy figured he, he, what are you reverse engineered?

:

I message and now he's got an app that allows Android to I message oh iPhones.

Adam:

That's cool, so even before that other product that they announced, right but even that isn't it's not using I've message, it's just right, it's letting.

Ronnie:

Uh, apple is allowing RCS to come Right, but this I message is is a better I mean let's you know, to be all honest, I rarely give Apple credit, but I message is pretty good, gotcha.

Adam:

Gotcha. So, um, yeah, I I do enjoy. I message it. Um, I think it works really well for what, um, for what you can do with it.

Adam:

So yeah very cool, um. So back to oh, what is it? Um, is it a? I don't know if we talked about this. Well, we got AirPlay, the other thing of Apple. We have AirPlay, and I'm not sure if you know anything about this, but this is a really cool product. So you're in the car, somebody's got their phone connected to Apple CarPlay and all of a sudden you get a message on your phone because somebody in the back seat says hey, I wanna play my music through your phone to the Apple CarPlay. So now you can have, you know, share a playlist, turn on a song and it'll go right through without having somebody messing with your phone or you on your phone. You can say hey, go ahead and do AirPlay. It's also a button you can click on when you're playing music.

Adam:

Wish I would have shown that. It's a new little logo. They have kind of showing kind of a wireless symbol of some sort. They tap it and there's a QR code. They can scan it if it doesn't work and get connected in. You accept it and now they can play their songs and play them in line or whatever on from phone to phone. Multiple people in the car Really nice feature. We've used it a couple of times I was telling my granddaughter about it. She thought it was awesome. She's seven, so she got her first phone or second phone, but not a phone number. Yet we just have my daughter and son-in-law, just have them. You know, use the wifi for now, so it's real cool. So, yeah, we have that. And the other thing, personal voice. Personal voice.

Ronnie:

Do you know what that is?

Adam:

No.

Ronnie:

So this is interesting.

Adam:

They talked about this a while back and now you can actually do it on your phone. Go to accessibility and there's personal voice there. Search for personal voice on the internet Apple personal voice. I'll put a link in the description on YouTube and please just a side note that please help us out, like and subscribe. It really will help us out. It'll make a difference to keep this show going. We're gonna do this for a year and hopefully it works and you guys like it. If there's anything you want us to change, email us. There's a link on the website we can go from there. But personal voice it's on the accessibility and there's more features to it. But you can train your phone.

Adam:

So if, for whatever reason, you can't talk anymore, which you might want to think about, doing this in a way in advance. It's kind of a little silly to think about. Maybe it's just because it's so new. You kind of have to do the personal voice. Now what if you lost your voice? Or you lost your voice because you got sick or something happened? People can hear you with your own voice, kind of like these voice services that you can type stuff in and it'll have a human voice, sound like the Amazon Echo. It's a computerized voice, it's not a human anymore, and so it will take and personalize it to your voice.

Ronnie:

So is it going to work like if I sent a text to someone, would they would their computer have to their phone have to have the there's going to be different ways to do it.

Adam:

So, for example, if you're on FaceTime and you have the you don't have the ability to talk you can go ahead and type it out and it'll come out in your voice. Yeah, so the new Apple uh supposed to work with the new Apple headset. Also, uh, the, you know, the virtual reality device. When that comes out, it's going to work with lots of third party apps. So, yes and no, I don't know what's coming with that. This is also new and just so different. Uh, we're just going to have to see what happens with it. I mean, it's going to be pretty neat. Um, go, you know, click on the link on the descriptions on YouTube and, uh, I'll provide a link there and we can check. You guys can check it out, cool, and just kind of read through the different different stuff. I read through Um and um there. I think there's there. There was something just on applecom, uh, a few days ago and it popped right up and I went through the whole thing. It told you how to use it, so I'll try to find that again. Uh, I think that I think they're changing up different things like uh, the tapping, uh to operate your watch and stuff like that, so that that is very cool.

Adam:

You know we may have touched on it when we talked about watches, but in the beginning of this episode we talked about do you have an apple watch and did you know you can operate it without touching it? So, basically, you can just double tap with your finger and your thumb and it'll activate a um, your screen. You can look at the screen and I got to do it from the hand that you have the watch on and then you can just go through different features on there and open it, open up different things, listen to, uh, see the text. By the way, the app, uh, the personal voice is even going to work with the apple watch. I don't know how that's going to happen, I just remember seeing that.

Adam:

But the apple watch is they've made it where this tap, this a haptic thing you can do, or tapping you can do, or you know, just just by doing different, you know gestures, stuff like that, and that's coming to the new um apple uh headset. So it's kind of like, uh, or you know, the virtual reality, uh, computer basically, is what it is, um, it it's gonna, it's kind of like Iron man when you look at the video on how it works, it is pretty incredible. When that gets closer, we're going to, we're going to put a whole segment together on that and, uh, you know, somebody wants to donate $3,500 to us. We'll buy one. I'm going to show you what it?

Adam:

looks like Don't do that, but it's. It's pretty exciting. It really makes me think as an IT professional how can this help? And um, it can help a lot of people. It can make things simpler. Um can help me near. I think what we would be would be really cool is you're in an airport and you're on an airplane and you you put those head, that headset on, you know uh visor on and you want to watch TV. You can watch 110 inch TV right in the plane. At least that's the way it will feel. So very cool. I mean the stuff they're coming out with.

Adam:

Um, there's also a, a um company. This was really interesting. I've just given a stock tip. I don't recommend anything about buying it or not, but it was pretty interesting. What, um, what this company does, and it's wearable devices WLDS and in reading through this it was where wearable devices LTD engages in development of non innovative neural input I'm not sure what that word is technology that allows operation and control of digital devices using your finger movements and finger pressure. So that's kind of what they're doing. We're understanding, maybe, that they're working with Apple, maybe not, but this is the newest technology on how they can, you know, pick this stuff up, what you're doing. So it's not neural link from from Elon Musk, but it is pretty cool, it is really cool. So you know that stock has gone down and it's projected to go back up, so we'll have to see what happens. You have to see Interesting. That one is going to be very interesting, very interesting.

Adam:

Yeah, oh, the other product is live speech. Makes it easier for people with visual disabilities to interact with physical objects and having their text label. So it's a error point. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Live speech. So it'd be easier for conversations for a lot of people that are disabled. So they're, they're coming out now. I don't know what they can do it for me on this, because I actually have to use these two fingers to tap, since I'm missing part of my thumb.

Adam:

So so, very fun, so they have works.

Ronnie:

Apple's got a lot of stuff coming out.

Adam:

I got a lot of stuff.

Ronnie:

Pretty busy. I just read also. They got like a tablet coming out and something else.

Adam:

Yeah, there's there are always upgrading their their products, um, you know, to the latest stuff.

Adam:

So you know, as we go along, we'll, we'll try to experiment a little bit more with this and we'll show you guys and pop up a video here and try to describe it a lot better for the people that are listening to the podcast. So if we play a video the next time and we kind of just we knew we needed to do this, um we're we're going to just kind of narrate it on the actual audio podcast, different than the video podcast. So we'll just kind of throw a narration in there to tell you guys what's happening. So I think it'll be, it'll be pretty cool, but, um, that's the latest there of those products. Um, going back to Apple, um, there was one other thing I thought that was really really interesting there. Um, the yeah, long, long, um pause there. Um, yeah, I'll, I'll provide a link to all the latest stuff on iOS 17, because iOS 17 is just, it's just one surprise after another. I mean this probably they keep releasing these things slowly as they're coming out, and I think it's great. One of the things that I really like yeah, this is the one I was wanting to talk about.

Adam:

The last one we'll talk about today is, if you like FaceTime and you have an at the latest Apple TV version of Apple TV and you've upgraded everything on your phone, you can basically take your phone. We'll pretend that's the TV and I think we've talked about this before Place it on the counter just below the TV. After you get it all hooked up, facetime somebody and this becomes the camera for your television out in the living room or wherever your FaceTime is connected to. So it um, yeah, it's. It's really cool. So we've tried it.

Adam:

So I have a TV. I got a frame TV in my living room. My brother has one in his living room. He lives in California. He finally got everything hooked up. We went in and did this the other night and sat on the couches and just like we're sitting right in front of each other and one different couch to another, kind of like this. So if you're sitting on your couch there and you know it's, kind of like we're talking to you but you know, with Apple FaceTime we're talking to you, but we can't see you.

Adam:

So yeah, Cool.

Ronnie:

It's too bad. It's too bad, we can't see them.

Adam:

Yeah, but maybe you know, maybe Apple will have um uh, what do you call it? Um FaceTime yesterday where we can see everybody yesterday.

:

Dad joke yeah.

Ronnie:

Yeah.

Adam:

And if, if I can just for some reason figure out how to stop all these spam calls coming up on my phone, as we're having a podcast, that would even be better, much better. You got any uh, any good uh factoids today?

Ronnie:

No, there wasn't anything today, nothing, nothing. I got nothing.

Adam:

You got nothing, I got nothing. We could uh ask Ziggy to tell a joke. Okay, ziggy tell a joke. Of course I did it again. Ziggy tell a joke.

:

Did you hear about the two large birds getting married? It was quite a moo Chanel.

Ronnie:

I don't know, ziggy, tell a tech joke.

:

What makes Linux jokes so corny? The kernel.

Adam:

Ziggy tell a computer joke.

:

I tried to write a joke about latency, but my timing was a little off.

Adam:

I like that one, I like that one, but that was about it. You know, the ones were didn't laugh. I think our jokes were funnier.

Ronnie:

Yes.

Adam:

I think they were a lot funnier and, on that note, maybe we should just end this thing and be done with it.
